Here in the Northeast we've been blanketed by snow and the mercury hasn't risen above freezing temps for far too long... but golf is always on my mind and I'm optimistic that the big melt and Spring are just around the corner.
So this got me thinking... what do I love about opening a new dozen?
Right now, the quick answer is that opening that first dozen of Pro V1x's for the year will signal the official start of my 2014 season.
But for as long as I can remember, there is just a special feeling I have when there is a brand new box of golf balls in my hands and they are ready to go. It always means that there are endless shots in front of me and the moment I crack open the lid, take out the first sleeve, pull a golf ball, put my mark on it and tee it up... nothing else really matters except for the shot immediately ahead.
To this day, there is just a quiet calm for a split second. It's hard to explain but it really is a cool moment.
Anyway, that's my story... what about everyone else?
What do you love about opening a new box of golf balls?
It's the feeling of a fresh start. A new 18, hole or shot in front of you. Those new golf balls don't have any scratches, nicks or scars. It's the same feeling when you experience that new car smell. It's your opportunity to drive something for the first time. No one else has had the chance to beat it up or put miles on it. I used to be worried about losing a new golf ball, but not anymore. I figure it's my chance to stripe one down the middle. I'm playing golf. Life is good.
That's Awesome Mike....
I had the opportunity to open the "New" box on Januaruy 5th of this year for my first tournament. The cool part.... #66 (lowest tournament round ever) and Team Titleist on the side of each and every golf ball. I looked at the ball on the first tee and a flood of memories of last year poured through my mind. I remember the TT San Diego event that was in December and a host of other special occasions and tournaments. Took a long look at the target, then the ball, and ripped it down the fairway. As I approached my ball, I took a few seconds to look back at the blocks; smiled, and said to myself....."Here's to a Jubliant 2014". And thus far.....it has been all that and much more....
What do you love about opening a new box of golf balls? ......"Game On"......
I think you nailed it Mike! I couldn't have said it any better. I love crackin open that new box and putting my mark on them. Plus getting that New Box smell! Aaaahhhh ;)

Opening a new box of golf balls is like a little present that you know will bring you more confidence while out on the course. It's like starting over! Getting a nice bright white new ball out of the sleeve, teeing it up on the first tee and letting it rip!

I couldn't agree more. I love that moment as well. I think it has to do with the relationship you have with your ball to the point were we custom mark them. From the moment the box is opened, these are your custom tools to craft your game around. Just a fresh pure white canvas!
Well I am with you at this point. Right now it would just mean I finally get out to play and all this darn snow is gone! But also opening up and knowing endless possibilities to this crazy game we love so much. Holes in one, great drives, even the occasional water ball. Ups and the downs, still love the game and Titleist makes it that much better.
MIke,
I have a couple of things that I love when opening a new box of ProV's. First there is the clean smell as you lift up the box cover. That to me is a signal that the unpleasant New England winter season is finally gone. This will certainly make sense to any native New Englander. Then I open up each of the sleeves. I guess I have this image in my mind that one of the twelve shinny new balls in the box will be my lucky one. Just one of those twevle will have something special about it. Whether its the "hole in one" ball, or the Albatros, or the "best round of my life ball". I just think that each box is special and it will be holding the "golden ticket" if you will to my next hole in one or my new "career round".
Nothing like a new box of ProV's to start off your season or round. The only thing better than a ProV1 is a ProV1 with a special Team Titleist logo on it.
Great question Mike, certainly made me think a little bit and actually got me excited to get out and play. Now I just need the sun to stick around and melt down some of this snow.
Thanks
-Brian
I love the shine and the feel of holding a new ball, the smell of a felt tip sharpie as I put my mark on it. It's the thought of endless possibilities and a good round waiting to happen. Much like you in the northeast, the Chicago area has been blanketed with snow and cold. I've successfully managed to mark every ball that I have, and have putted for hours on end in my house. I'm ready to get the season started, and cracking that box open on the first tee certainly signifies the passion for the game and getting things under way.

I'm still not convinced winter will ever end. Can't tell by the 4 feet piles of snow along the driveway. So the only thing white I enjoy touching is a new Titleist ball. Taking some out to putt in the living room is the dream of the dream.
Looks like the first real sign of spring will be if/when the 2014 Pro-V loyalty program balls slide across the ice to my front door.
Obviously after this winter, opening a new box will have a little extra feeling of golf season finally being here. But every time I open a box, there's the feeling of opportunity. Growing up I almost always used balls I found. And even now I find I do that a lot. So "getting" to use a new ball is a little extra special. Like this might be the time for a great round.
I always liked the familiar smell of a new sleeve of golf balls. That and the feeling of "wow", I've actually got some new golf balls to play with. I'm just lazy when it comes to buying new balls. I'll usually just scrounge up any decent ProV1's I can find in my club closet and play those. I'm happy to say I've got about 2 dozen Prov1X's still in the box at the moment, so I can't wait to break them out.
The anticipation of hitting those balls and the good and poor results that go with that........
Mike
your right on, TOO MUCH SNOW here in Massachusetts .
The opening of that new box of Titleist balls means joy ahead. The course is open, my friends will all be there and the club is like a Home for both Barbara and me, what could be nicer then family and friends all getting together again.

For sure the signal of a new season and a fresh start!
Hi Mike,
What I love best about opening a new box of ProV1's is putting my mark on them, and then dropping them back into the sleeve, and then the box, closing it back up, and knowing that those are now "my Prov1's"......it's even better when they're ProV's with a TT logo on them...!!!
B.P.
The new possibilities and confidence that comes with placing my mark on and teeing up a new Titliest is the best!
Hi Mike..
What I love most about opening a new box of Pro V1's is the personalized number and slogan that I have on each ball.
It saves me from having to mark them up..
Number 29 with the slogan Fight On!! My Irish and Bruin friends that I play with hate it!!!!!

Hi Mike, like you I`m up here in the northeast and wondering if winter will ever vacate the premises. When we finally get to the start of a new season and open that first sleeve it means a fresh start and hopefully improvements and a fun season. Good rounds with good friends. --Chas
The end to winter and the excitement of a new Titleist golfing season! Opening up that new box/ sleeve, is an Ah Ha moment of tranquility and new golf memories waiting to be made!
