A wise man once told me, "if you see a man with iron covers, bet him all you've got!"

Lol some great responses on here regarding slow play if you use headcovers........seriously? I play with the same three lads most wks none of who use covers and I’ve never had them wait on me....
I’ve used headcovers on my irons for years as I like to keep my gear as in as good condition as possible, never had a problem with rust either....

    It’s a no for me.
I love to look and admire the irons in all there glory.
My ocd makes me clean my clubs after every round anyway lol.
  4. I have a set of covers that never get put on any more... slows the pace of play and my buddies roast the hell out of me. I basically got shamed out of using them hahaha don’t blame anyone for wanting to keep their clubs nice, but they def have a dorky stigma attached to them
  5. I would say iron covers only when traveling IMHO

I don’t use during play but absolutely every time when I travel with them.

Iron head covers are the route of all evil.
  8. No iron covers for me!

I once overheard a conversation between an excellent club playing member and head golf professional with the member asking if he was good enough to play in some of the big money games at the club. The golf professional looked at him and pointed to the iron covers and said if you want to be taken seriously you have to get rid of those.

I understand the desire to keep the irons from getting dinged up, but will not use iron covers.

Totally a personal issue/preference, but, for me the minor dings/marks add a certain beauty/character to the clubs (particularly forged clubs)- I can't describe but there it is- a personal decision- just keep your clubs clean and dry and head covers are fine if preferred by the individual.

To each his own, but no iron covers for me. Further more, I wipe my club after each shot. Ask any pro, dirt in the grooves is like a gun with no bullets, useless.

I have never used iron head covers and never will. I wipe off my iron heads after most shots. I store my clubs inside our house. They rarely spend the night in my vehicle trunk. During 50 years of playing this great game, I have carried my bag, rode in a cart, and walked using a push cart. I have used 14 way divider bags, 6 way dividers, and 5 way dividers. Stand bags, staff bags, and cart bags. My clubs have had very few dings due to bag chatter. Maybe I have just been fortunate, but the case for iron head covers does not work for me. However, it’s your time and money so do whatever you prefer. Have fun !

One more thing to lose and to go back a look for! Never have used them and do not plan on putting them on my clubs. I play three to four times a week and my clubs looks great. When I buy a new model and sell my old ones, people compliment me on how well I have taken care of them. Guess it boils down to choices.
  15. Seriously don’t understand any correlation between poor play and head covers...
Similarly, no factual link between slow play and head covers.
OCD and head covers is probably more closely linked, as is protecting your assets.

I use them for travel religiously but do not use them on course. Not sure I agree with the slow play issues - does not really take the time, more that it is one more thing to lose on course. I personally do not mind the chatter (noise) and I do not really find that the irons get damaged by not using the covers either.

    My two cents …...

I don’t use covers but I agree about clubs get beaten up. I use a white bath towel that I wrap through my irons and
this stops them from slapping about. Works well, just wet one end and you can clean clubs, balls, and whatever else needs it.
    Just my $0.02.

Also, thanks for the “head covers cause slow play” I about shot my drink out my nose on that one.
    Cheers

No covers, they are beat into the ground. Dings and dents build character. I am not buying them for resale, I am using them.

I almost bought some once but I just thought I would lose one and then I would stop using them anyway. I have never played with anyone that had them either.

It will be too late when the heads of your irons come off because of the moisture coming off the inside of the head covers causes rust in the bottom of your shafts and then the cost for replacing your shafts starts to mount up. Trust me I know because thats what happened to me a few years ago. Why pay good money for a good set of irons and then ruin them at a small cost.
    Total waist of money.
