My handicap is about 10-11 as well. I was fitted back in the spring and played the AP2 716's for about a week or two and decided to give the AP1's a try. I went with the AP1's and have never looked back. To me the AP2 was not as forgiving and I was able to make better contact with AP1's. Making better contact/ball striking and having more forgiveness gave me more confidence. The AP1 looked more appealing to me at address. All this has translated into a great set of clubs for my game, not to mention the added distance. If you are able to demo both the AP1 and AP2, I would suggest trying them both out. I am very happy with my choice of going with the AP1 716's. Hope this helps!

As repeated and cliche as this sounds...go get fit by a professional Titleist fitter! Hands down the best thing you can do. The fitter and trackman will give you the best info for a informed decision. Good Luck!

If they are having a fitting in your area I would suggest going to that. They were not having a fitting when I bought mine, so I went to the local golf shop and hit buckets of balls with both AP1 and AP2's. I love the way the AP2's felt when I hit them pure, but the AP1 had a much bigger sweet spot and were a lot more forgiving. I ended up buying the AP1's because I am a little better than bogey golfer, and I felt these made the game enjoyable, and gave me consistency you would expect from Titleist. On this site, pretty well everyone will suggest that you get fitted by a certified titleist fitter. You will be able to try both the ap1 and ap2 in a variety of shafts to see what works best for you and your swing.

I'm playing 822OS DCI's from about 15 years ago and went to a fitting day recently. I tried the AP2's and the CB's. The AP2's are more consistent, the CB's felt better but they are not as forgiving. I play of 14 but I hit the ball better than that, I just really cannot putt lately. 85 with 6 three putts was the last round I played.

first of all I think gold club are first impression and feeling. I will recommend testing both of them.
I had the AP2 serie before. I love them but unfortunately were stolen 2 years ago.
Wanted the same but decided to go for a fitting and finally went back home with MB and CB combo.
Playing 9-11 hdc, i think the AP2 are the best for you.
First of all they are forged irons and not the AP1/ you will have better sensation and control, in my opinion, with forged iron.
But most important is the shaft, so don t hesitate to get fitted to have the best clubs in your hands.
I loved my AP2 but even more in love with my new serie.

Best thing is to go see a pro/fitter and get the best set for your game. I have recently been to the UK national fitting centre with a view to replacing my old 962's (which were custom fit in 1998) with some 716's. The outcome was that I did not buy anything. I gained approx 4yrds carry and the difference in dispersion between old and new was minimal. It would have been several hundred pounds for no real benefit in play. You may find the old DCI's are still the best for you.

I did end up replacing wedges and woods with modern versions and replaced my #4 iron with a #4 716 T-MB to solve a long game gapping issue.

I don't how you swing, but just taking your handicap into consideration, I would go for the AP2. I got mine last year, and I still love the sight of them and their performance. I tried the AP1 as well, but foun them a little to big, and got worried how they would perform in the rough being bigger.

If you don't have to have the new set right now, the new AP3 could perhaps be a consideration worth, since Titleist claims it is a set between AP1 and AP2.

No matter what you choose, I'm sure you love them. Just be sure to get fitted. it makes all the difference.

Best advice is to go test them both, don't set your sights on just one. I was in a similar situation a few years ago. I was coming from another brand, but was leaning toward the AP2s, but also tested AP1s. The AP1s were better for me by the numbers and went with them. Absolutely love them.

Next spring, it's time to upgrade my clubs again, so when I go get fit I'm going to try all the new 718s and see what works best.

It would be best to get fitted somewhere. Although with your handicap they would probably start you with the AP2s and see how those felt and how the flight was with those.

My index is right around yours, and I'm playing 712 AP2's. I was lucky enough to be invited to be fitted for the new 718's today. My game has fallen off since the purchase of my AP2's, so I fully expected to look at the AP1. But the AP3 blew my mind - what a club! Be sure to check them out! Longer, more forgiving and great looking - Titleist "striped" this design!
