I have found that the more I focus on drills to stop lateral sway on to my back leg I have improved overall ball striking. The drill I love to do is grab a basketball or soccer ball and put it on my lead hip against a wall and practice my take away. It helps me with weight shift without moving laterally keeping me in a good position to strike the ball.

The only way to improve anything in golf is to practice. Hit balls. Hit chips. Hit putts.

Practice is definitely key. Also make sure your constant with routine.

See a PGA teaching pro to see that your set up and tempo are correct, then practice, practice, practice.

I think it's different for everyone. If you don't have the basics down though, it won't matter what you try, you'll have no consistency. Get the grip right, square the stance and the backswing is really really important. If it's off, the rest of the swing will be off. I finally took lessons after 45 yrs of DIY and my swing has completely changed! Get with a PGA coach!

Use impact stickers or foot powder to establish a baseline of how you’re striking the ball. Assuming you aren’t striking it well next steps are fitting, stance, grip adjustments to strike middle of the face. From there it’s all up to you and a routine but consistent set up and swing has to be the goal.
Striking for me became better when I practiced with a deliberately slow swing.m at practice. Feel the take away, transition into the back swing, momentum pause and the a slow down swing and contact to engage feeling and body position. While not recommended for a full swing, one hand 1/4 swings to get isolation of movement. I only use a wedge for this.

Guys, you really need another set of eyes to look at your alignment, set up, contact and swing. That is why I always recommend seeing a PGA instructor. It is really hard to correct a problem without seeing what the problem is. We have five instructors where I play and five more where I buy my clubs. I support them.

If you have the funds available for lessons I would recommend that. I do think there is value in having somoene watch you and help you gain the proper feel. That being said if it isn't I would suggest using your phone to video your swing. You perception of your swing and actual swing might be completely different. Just get a visual of what you are doing and a visual you want to be at.

Watch your tempo and swaying. Film your swing, put a circle around your head, and try to keep your head within the circle (there are a handful of apps that can do it).

Practice practice practice and to Chucks point,another set of eyes,along with a cell phone to record your swing is a great idea.

One drill that helped me was putting my towel behind the ball about a club head length.

When i first started golfing drill I worked on was ghost swinging. I would go and practice as if I was going to swing at a ball. I would take some white spray paint and spray a marker on the grass to represent the ball. If you are making solid contact with the area, you will remove the paint from the gras after 10-15 swings. This will also help you with naturally recognizing your ball alignment and setting you the proper spacing you need between you and the ball.

It also doesn't hurt to practice indoor or outdoors with foam balls on artificial turf.

But the big thing that I tell any golfer that is trying to get better is that practice makes perfect. Last year I was golfing at least 2-3 rounds a week in various conditions to work on my temp, swing, and consistency. After a whole season, I was able to lower my handicap by 10. If you put the time in, then everything will come.

I had some lessons last year which improved my ball striking dramatically. Essentially by swinging up to shoulder height instead of beyond (felt like waist height) I was catching the ball cleaner and more consistent. Aligned the face then the feet at address which also helped. Basic changes that made the world of difference to me

Start with chipping. Smaller and more compact swing. Build up into irons feeling like youre hitting a wedge. Weight and hands forward at impact. A good drill for you, Hold an alignment stick with the club running the stick up your left side. Hit chip shots with this without letting the stick smack you in the left side, this will create a great impact position.
