Myrtewood GC (Palmetto Course) in Myrtle Beach SC.....
My family was on vacation and my father asked me if I wanted to go with him while he played and I could drive the Golf Cart (I was age 12) and I agreed.
Little did I know that his plan was to afford me the opportunity to actually play, and he rented a set of clubs from the Pro Shop.
I had gone to the Driving Range with him many times back home in Cleveland OH, but never actually played Golf on a Course.
I will never forget that day, and needless to say, I have been hooked (no pun intended) ever since.....!

First course I ever played was The Sunnycrest Golf Course in Syracuse NY. I was 9 yrs old and my father took me there for my first time playing. I did not realized he saved the card, but I found it when we were getting his house ready for selling after he passed away. I shot 63 for those nine holes. That started my life long love of the game. I have been playing this wonderful sport for 60 years w/ the only break being when Uncle Sam drafted me. Thanks for the opportunity to reminsce

When I was 13 I worked for a man named Al Levine who played at Worcester Country Club.
Not to offend his members he took me to the City of Worcester course, “Green Hill Golf Course”
After 9 holes he suggested that I do not give up Baseball. Then took me to lunch.
    Never to play again, together

The first course ever played was 30 years ago when I was an undergrad at California State Dominguez Hills the course name was Victoria Park in Carson California about 10 years ago they renamed it The Links of Victoria unfortunately the greedy Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors are going to close the course and replace it with dog parks and skateboard parks. Over the Thanksgiving weekend my daughter and I drove down so I can play the course one more time and give it a proper send-off . It will always be my first love

Lake Bonaventure Country Club In Clinchfield, VA. A nine hole course with two sets of tees. I was not even 10 years old, probably 8 or 9. Had an old set of Kroydon blades at junior length my Dad found. I blame him for getting me hooked on golf. I found out later when playing junior golf at other courses in my teens, about slope ratings and realized what a tough course we had. Still remember the acushnet club special and when older it was a huge deal to hit a black Titleist. My claim to fame in golf was beating a friend who is now a teaching pro, who played on the Hogan tour. Our Fathers played a regular foursome together. However, it was when we were 12 in the junior club championship. Good memories. Thanks for reminding us to look back!!!!

Southport & Ainsdale back when I was about 3 or 4. My Grandad was out for a round with a friend who was a member there. Due to one reason or another he got lumbered with me for the day as well. Rather than cancel off though, he cut up an old putter, put some new grip tape on and let me "play" with them putting from just off the green.

    Hooked ever since.

    Still got the putter.

My first course was at Lake Wright Golf Course in Virginia Beach. Unfortunately, this course no longer exist. It was a city course to which the city sold the property to which it has now been developed.

We were allowed to play once a week. I still remember the first time I caught a ball in the sweet spot...been hooked for the last 35 years.

On a somewhat related note, way before I played on my first golf course, I learned to play in the backyard using my dad’s old mixed set of clubs and some wiffle balls I bought at the Five and Dime Store. Still have his old clubs. Thanks Dad for letting me use them and getting started on this wonderful game.
