Sure miss the turning of the foliage having grown up in East Tennessee and those beautiful Smokey Mountains. Fortunately living on the coast of S Carolina we have the opportunity to play the year round. It's entirely up to the course superintendent. With the new grasses, we will be playing.

We're up at Asheville and the leaves are looking great this fall. Finding the ball is another matter, ha ha. I do appreciate the extra roll on the frozen turf but, putting on these Ross greens in winter gets a little grim. Question-does the Charleston Muni play as well as it looks? Thank you.

Our course in the mountains has an official close date in early October. Members can still go out and play the course as the maintenance crews still work until the first snow hits. This year, the first snow hit early, and we only had a few days of post closure golf.
  8. Hoping for at least one more round on Sunday in Westchester County, NY. Then who knows, maybe a few fake rounds at Pebble on a simulator. Sad, but in a few years a warmer climate will be a requirement of retirement.

I just love fall photos & when they involve a golf course they are even more special. One of the seasons I really like playing in as the colors turn on the trees. Then the cold hits & everything is brown. Lol.

    Beautiful photos,

Fall golf is a favorite of mine too. I took the day off just to get that last round in. I couldn't believe I was the only one on the course that morning.

I played what I thought was going to be my last round on wednesday, Oct 27. Friday morning the forecast for Saturday was in the low-mid 60's after a cool start, so I changed my plans and got in one last round. The next day, Oct 31 was the last day the club was open and it was in the low 40's and windy. I don't think there were many who played that day!

With all the indian summer weather we had this fall, the courses around here were in great shape. It's a shame to see the season end, but winter is coming. Some frosty mornings of late and a few flurries, too. They started making snow on our ski hill.

Indoor simulator season starts soon. At least I'll be able to get in a few swings indoors while we wait for spring.

When I saw the weather forecast I knew I had to get one more round in before the course closed. We have one outdoor range that is open all year. I will try and get there when the weather permits just to keep swinging. But sad to see the season end. Long winter ahead.

Here in Rochester NY...depending on the weather a course or two may open for play. Usually too temp pin locations as the greens are off limits. I would and have played in December.

If only the courses locally are open. Weather permitting, Thanksgiving weekend is the last. Several have already suspended play due to snow forecast this weekend.

Garrett: Kinda hard to play golf in knee deep snow! Haha! We've got a good 3" on the ground now, received over the weekend. Winter is here.

Paul- nice pictures. I understand your feelings. I am in Chicago and our fall weather is ending tonight. Chance of snow this weekend.

  19. Here in central NC, we will play all winter. There will be some days we can't play, and some days we shouldn't play, but we'll tough it out.

We have been fighting the NE winds and 8 foot high tides. Fall is definitely here. The winds does require a new game. We could use an ark or two with the high tides. Downtown Charleston is a real mess. One of our big hospitals is moving because of the flooding. We all have our challenges. Just glad the snow only comes around maybe once a year for a day and melts by the afternoon.

We plow through winter here but it gets sloppy at times. Jan-Feb can be dicey we may miss a week or two but I have played at least 1 round a month for the last five years. I live in western KY

That's Awesome. Weather depending we have a couple courses that will re open. But use alternated Pin locations. They won't let You on the greens.

I look forward to winter golf here in MD. Certainly we get snow, but not usually so much that the course needs to close for the season. (We did, however, get a 3-foot dump of the nasty white stuff a few years back that closed the course for a month.)

Since the COVID golf craze, all the courses around here are packed daily, in-season. So for me, rainy summer days or fall/winter days below 45* are two of the best times to play if I want the place mostly to myself. I can play 18 in about 2:15, without rushing on those days.

I have a full cart cover/enclosure for when the weather gets too cold and/or windy for me. I also use a small propane cart heater for those really cold, windy days. When I use the cover and heater together, I don't have to overdress in too many layers, which affords me less restriction in my swing. It's toasty inside the cart between shots.

The worst part of the day is trying get the cart cover off, folded up and back into my car in some semblance or order, while the cold and wind beats me up as the suns sets and the temps drop further!

As long as there is no snow on the ground and the temps are above freezing (without too much wind), I will play 3-4 days a week through the winter. But, I really hate when we have a warm front roll through and the temps get up in the high 50s for a couple days. The course fills up fast as the fair-weather crowd comes out of the woodwork. I often stay home those days so as not to have to deal with the golf-feeding frenzy.

Golf is one of the only sports that has 4 workable seasons. We simply make some minor adjustments for each season and keep playing. I used to hate the down-time in Reno and would move to indoor practice sessions. While I definitely prefer summer golf here, I look forward to fall golf as it affords me the opportunity to hit the road and go over the hill to some of the Northern California courses or road trips to Vegas or Southern California.
  25. I play all year in Piedmont NC. I switch from ProV1x to AVX, and have to hit 1 to 2 more clubs on most shots. Cart cover and heater make the day more enjoyable. More clothes restrict my turn and I shorten my swing a little.

We're on borrowed time here in the peoples republic of Mass. We go to 10am shotguns this time or year for as long as we can play. Had a slot for tomorrow but today's monsoon rains mean a delay, and no carts out and at least 2 in the group need the carts. Better luck next week.

Starting to embrace off season/cold weather golf - used to avoid it. Playing more with my kids - which makes it more fun.

Soggy courses, frost delays, layers of clothes, cannot see the ball as well (leaves and sun), ball doesn't go as far.

    Yea...bring it!

I live just outside Washginton DC and as King as it’s at least 45 with a light wind I’ll play. A few years ago I bought two pairs of Under Armour insulated golf pants from golf Galaxy for $25 per pair so between those and a few layers on top I’m good to go, plus walking helps to keep me warm.

I was able to sneak in 9 with my son and daughter on Wednesday after work. Mid 40’s and pretty breezy but surprisingly pretty comfortable. At this time of year I’ll take it!
