Spent the morning at Kiawah Island, The Ocean Course. Was there working at the Ronald McDonald Charity Golf event. Mentioned to Steve the head pro the TT Invitational and they are really excited about TT coming. Spoke with the planner and she said it sold out immediately and that the waiting list is pretty long. Took some pictures from inside and outside the clubhouse so you can get an idea of what you are in for, for those who have not been there. The rain passed and they got their tournament in. Picked up a nice old school pom pom headcover for my hybrid to match my Titleist midsize tour bag.

Thanks, Steve. Me too. The Ocean Course was not always a walking course only before noon. Played it many times and was never required to walk. Seems that walking courses may not be on the horrizon for me according to my pulmonologist. Bummer. He said at least I can still play golf. I asked him if he had seen me play.... =)

As long as none of us have been billed, i'm not too worried. If some have and others not, then we might have a problem. I know when I talked to Lizzie before, she was just slammed with near-term events that required attention before she got around to us.

I haven't been billed, but since I'm bringing my wife, Lizzie did ask some questions over the weekend so she can make an offer. Must be getting close to invoicing based on rooms and occupancy.

    Thanks for the pics, Chuck.
I tried to jump in 2 days after it was announced. Not quick enough.

I'm on the waiting list, but doesn't sound like much hope. Have fun, guys. Sounds like a good one.

Greg, for future reference, if you do not get in on the very first day, you will "not" make the cut. I spoke with the planner at the Ocean Course and she said they sold out in a matter of hours and went to a waiting list. Opened it up again for a few more hours, it filled up and they had to close it all in the same day. The Team Titleist Invitationals are very popular. Team Titleist does an outstanding job selecting top notch sites for these events and the packages are first class. You can ask anyone who has been to one. I wish you luck on the waiting list. Both of the courses are outstanding and are completely different. I have played the Ocean Course many more times than Osprey and do like it much better.

Thanks for the advice. i've wait listed the last 3 years. Next year I'll pay closer attention.

I've heard nothing but good things about the event. Look forward to hearing the stories from all the other guys. It'll be a good one.

Other than the Ocean Course, what are the best options for play while at Kiaweh? We are extending our TT Invitational trip by a few days and we want to play the best available.

We are flying into Savannah and driving down from there so we are stopping by Hilton Head on the way in. Tee times at Harbour Town and Atlantic Dunes already set up! Package done through Sea Pines Resort.
  18. I thought Turtle Point and Osprey Point were next best, in that order.

I drew in for Tuesday practice round tickets for the 2019 Masters. My plan is to fly in-and-out of Charleston, and spend some time in that area. Now I'm working to convice the wife that a round on the Ocean Course is a must-do while we're there. Wish me luck with convincing her!

If you don't rent a room for a grand in Augusta - tell here how much you saved! Note, you'll need to stay more than 40 miles away to get the room price under $250. That'll pay for the Ocean Course.
I was actually quoted a grand for the downtown Marriott - but you had to take multiple nights. Now with that money saved, you can add Pinehurst #2 to the trip.

Yeah, I'm not staying in Augusta. Flying into/ out of Charleston, and going to spend a couple of days in the area. Tickets are for Tuesday, so we'll stay in Columbia on Monday night. I like the way you think- save the $$$ on hotel, spend it playing golf!

It's only a about a three hour drive to Augusta from Charleston. I-26 to I-20 west. I use to go the cross country route thru Bamberg but left too much money there in speeding tickets and figured interstate is the best route. If you are not staying on Kiawah Resort the rates will be in the $400's. Walking only that time of the year before noon and you have to take a caddie. It is an awesome course. I have played it many times and they have made it easier since Dye first designed it for the Ryder cup was played here in 1991. I got to play it right after the Ryder Cup and it was a monster. If the wind is blowing it is easy to shoot triple digits. Charleston is a beautiful area to visit and live. We moved to Mt Pleasant, across the river from Charleston in 1984 and do not plan on leaving. The area is a great place to wake up every morning. If you get the chance to visit our little city, place drop by Page's Okra Grill, which happens to be the number one visited eatery in the area. Long lines except if you come around 2 pm because they close at 3 pm to set up for reopening at 5 pm. Saltwater Cowboys is a fun place on Shem Creek where the Shrimp boats are. Probably number one photographed place in state. If you like awesome brisket, take in Lewis' BBQ. Best in the state. The pit-master moved here from Austin, TX. Great seafood on Sullivan's Island, Middle Street, Sullivan's. Locally owned, next to post office. Great downtown favorites: 82 Queen, Poogan's Porch, Hanks, SNOB. We are know for our good food. If you like old plantations, recommend Middleton Place. Boone Farm in Mt Pleasant is nice and much smaller. Take a tour of the harbor and go to Ft Sumter. You can visit Ft Moultrie on Sullivan's Island where the British were stopped during the Revolutionary war and it is free to see. A lot of history in and around Charleston. Have fun in our area and enjoy your time at the Masters. It is a once in a life time experience.

Winding down a week of vacation in Charleston. Great place.
Played the Ocean Course yesterday...you folks are gonna love it. Great golf course, which played tough even in only a gentle breeze. Each hole unique, demanding that you work the ball in both directions.
I can’t imagine what this place is like in brisk wind. Bring your game.

Hopefully won't be any worse for wear than TPC Sawgrass was last year. Aside from all the personal tragedy from storm-related damage throughout the Carolinas and beyond, Pinehurst will also be taking a pounding with potential rainfall in excess of 10 inches. 2 inches overnight at the Pinehurst invitational added some unexpected water hazards to the previous version of #4. #2 has had vegetation rooting for several years, the new #4 won't have nearly the root structure for the waste areas. Without wind damage, areas in Wisconsin with 10-15 inches of rain recently are still recovering. I can't fathom what 20-40 inches will be like.

I saw an update that said Kiawah played golf in 5 days after the hurricane last year. apparently with all the waterways and such around the island, the course drains really well. Let's hope that is the case this year as well! lucky the TTI is over a month away still

Last years hurricane is nothing like Florence. This storm is moving very slowly and dumping rain like the one that hit Houston last year.

Just got back from an eight day cruise to the Caribbean and was not here for the little blow in the Charleston area. Think there were a few courses closed today (Sunday) and understand those that are in the low lying areas, will be open on Tuesday for play. Will call the course in the am to double check to see if we can play and if not, will get out the lawn mower and attach the grass bagger attachment and clean up the debris in my yard. Have seen worse this year from earlier rain storms in August. Some minor flooding occurred in the Charleston area and I live across the river in Mt Pleasant, which is about two miles from the ocean. Life is normal and Kiawah is 45 minutes south of us. The rain here in Charleston is nothing like Houston. Maybe in N Carolina. We have been extremely blessed, just as my friend the weather forecaster predicted. If Kiawah had been hit like parts of NC some of the holes along the beach could have been destroyed by the surge. You can smile guys......the course is salt water tolerant.....

We had an inch of rain on Friday which is a normal rainy day for us. Played "at golf" this morning, carts out, ninety degree rule in effect, driving range open, back to normal operating procedures. Now north of here in Georgetown, understand they had ten inches of rain and were to get more today. The Holy City, as we are commonly called down here escaped the wrath of Florence. A lot of smiling faces around Chucktown today...... =)

Smiles, everyone that will be attending the TTI. Of course it is a few weeks away. Here is an announcement I received from Roger Warren, President of Kiawah Island Golf Resort, today. Thought I would pass it on to those who might have some concerns.

"Kiawah Island Golf Resort was on the southeast edge of Hurricane Florence. As a result, we are very fortunate that we experienced no negative effects from the storm—no infrastructure damage, no power outages, no beach erosion and no flooding. We closed the resort last Wednesday in compliance with the governor of South Carolina’s evacuation order, but we spent Sunday, the 16th, preparing the resort to reopen to serve our guests. We are fully open and operational today, and the resort, including The Sanctuary Hotel, is welcoming guests and taking reservations. Meanwhile, our thoughts and prayers go out to our neighbors just north of us on both sides of the North Carolina-South Carolina border.

We look forward to welcoming our guests back to the coast to experience our distinct brand of Southern hospitality."
