I like to practice all my shots. What I noticed is I need to focus/practice on my takeaway. This helps eliminate my hook.
  2. I love to practice short game 80 percent of my time is spent there.

Chipping if I am somewhere I can do that, otherwise long and short pitches
  4. Since we are on topic of practicing. What is everyone's normal practice routine? I typically start on the range. I like to start out with various chip and pitch shots, then work my way up from short irons to long irons. I then go back to chipping, pitching and full wedge shots. I'll then hit a few drives and woods. End the session on the putting green working on various putts, along with chips. This is one thing I need to spend more time doing. I've thought about starting on the putting green then going to the range and end the session back on the putting green. Anyone do anything similar?

For me, it depends on whether I am working on something specific or just hitting range balls to stay in sync. If I am working on something specific, I might spend the majority of time with the club related to that issue. For instance, if I have had some driving issues in the past round, I will hit a few short irons to warm up but dedicate the majority of practice to working out the issues with the problematic club. Warm ups are hitting a few shots with most clubs but practice is usually more specific.

I am so disappointed with my driver performance I usually don’t even use it in a round, I’d rather go 3W or less and be short then make up for it with my irons. So when it comes to practicing, I usually hit a couple off the tee before moving on to my irons, mid range game and plenty of time with the Vokey’s! I enjoy a good amount of time putting as well

The one aspect of winter training that doesn’t carry over at all to actual courses is the short game. Perfect lie. No uphill/downhill or above/below feet conditions. Too many courses have putting greens with pitching/chipping prohibited. Just need to get permission to install a green at one end of our backyard and tear up the rest of the yard to hit onto the green.

It's been a while since I've posted a Quick Poll and after sitting down for a chat with our good friend and Titleist Ambassador Michael Breed yesterday, I thought it would be great to hear from all of you about some of your practice habits. So we've got a two-part poll below for you today... and you're going to have to be honest with yourself for the second question. :)

Make sure you answer both polls and drop a reply to share more about your answers.

And remember to be honest here...

Being an older golfer, I was taught at a very young age to literally practice the game from the pin to the tee. When I practice I will spend a majority of time focusing on my distance with my 7i-wedge. It’s not uncommon for me to hit over 75 balls with just these irons while working to the driver. Then off to the chipping and putting greens. If not too crowded I’ll practice longer than playing an actual round.

I typically practice my putting and chipping in my office and I don't practice any bunker shots. I keep my focus on the fairways and greens, laws of attraction you know... so I start with my wedges, then hit odd or even irons, then my a wood and always my driver. I usually alternate my clubs with each trip to the range, but I always carry my full bag to flex a little.

I’m a big putting and short game practice guy. Love spending time on the short game….definitely need more time fine tuning the iron play.

My winter golf in Florida is on two courses that are quite friendly off the tee, so I focus on chipping & putting.
Up north in NH I need to focus more on keeping it straight off the tee!

I’ve attached one of my favorite memes about this!

Closest range to me shutdown and unfortunately I don't get to practice nearly as much as I used to or would like to.

Father of two golf fanatics, but often I just bring a wedge to the range to practice with them. Short game, bunkers and full wedge shots. What I have noticed in my own game, my long game has suffered. I need to concentrate on myself a little more.

‘Too many times, I have the perfect distance for X club and end up short.‘ - this suggests to me that your perfect distance for club X requires a perfect shot with it, we don’t often hit perfect shots as amateurs. If you’re finishing short try more club, 15yds probably puts you middle of the green

I dont have the time i used to, but generally i hit the range once a week for woods, irons and full wedge work. I like to go practice short game and putting mostly. Once you have a good idea where you are then its swing maintenance from there. Short game is my favorite i bring a cigar and just spend a couples in the sun, Thats my relax time.

My Titleist rep tells me the guys like Spieth/Thomas/Homa/Cantlay/Aberg swap out their wedges monthly, if that tells you how much time they spend in their hands. Case closed!

I never go to the range. I start with the putting green to develop feel and then a few chip shots and on to the first tee.
  18. I think it matters in this vote which stage you are at in your journey of golf. Getting off the tee was a very important area for me in the beginning. So I was almost entirely committed to gaining some control that wasn’t embarrassing. Always going to have issues there if I’m honest. But I lean more towards committing to all approach shots. Peak heights and accuracy lead my focus. I love wedges and often spend an entire time chipping from unusual lies for creative shots. Most courses have great areas to do this work for free. The worse the area the better. Hard pan bunkers can be trickier than one might think for someone new to the game. But I do pretty well with them. The more sand the easier. Took me a while to get better with a lob wedge. Flight needs to be lower. Ironically swinging with less gives a better result for me.

  19. Earl woods technique was the best. working on the short game than gradually working on your irons/tee game... have always kept that in the back of my mind

I usually practice about 2-3 times a week. About 25% of it is spent hitting irons, 45% is spent chipping and the remaining 30% of the time is spent putting. Truth is I should practice more with my driver and hybrids which usually get me into trouble and affect my score. I do love practicing and enjoy every aspect of it
  21. I normally take just a 9-sand wedge to the range most days. Putting I do at home or when I have time at the course as well. I will stay after a round for a bit too so I can hit more wedges and putt a bit while reflecting on the recent game scenarios.
