  1. Dear Vocky: I play SMS 7: 52.8 and 58.12 with M grind. Please suggest SMS 8: how should I select wedges and grind. I a sweeper. Thanks
  2. Bob,
Given the chance to add another wedge in the bag, as a longer hitter, should I add a 62* or 64* wedge or change the spacing of my existing wedge set. I currently have a 45, 50, 56, 60. Thanks

What does Bob Vokey like to do most with family and friends when he is away from the game of golf, and making the best wedges in golf? You're very much a "in demand" fellow so I'm sure time is precious for you!

    Mr. Vokey,
How challenging is it for you and your team to continually find improvement and innovation on the next generation of wedges year after year, especially the SM8’s?
    Thanks,
    Ryan
  5. Hi Bob,

As a kid, I loved playing with a png eye-2 sand wedge, especially out of traps.

Which SM8 grind is close to the original eye-2?

I think it’s the balance between enough of a sole to provide that bounce back from sand, yet not too wide to prevent you from being able to slide the club underneath on tighter lies that was so nice.

    Thanks!
  6. Mr Bob,
How important is shaft weight to wedge fitting. I play 105 weight in my irons and a lot of my friends play 95 weight in their irons. Should our wedges be the same or heavier? I see you offer only one stock shaft and it is heavy.
  7. What is the most loft a high single digit handicap player should carry?
  8. How much has adjusting the center of gravity in the SM8 line changed the way wedges are designed in the future?

Which wedge, loft and bounce, would be best to play a low spinning shot that skips back to the hole that checks up after 3 bounces?

Could not wait to get my hands on a new SM8 yesterday and wanted to make sure I purchased the correct grind before using it. I use a 56 degree wedge for full shots ,sand and delicate shots around the green. I was advised to go with the D grind instead if the S grind because I like to open up the blade and the relief on the D grind would be better suited for this. Please share your thoughts with me. Thank you

    Hello Mr Vokey,

When will the T grind be released to the public? Have seen them on the tour in the past.

Thanks for all the hard work your team and yourself have put into giving us the opportunity to play the best wedges on the market. #VokeyNation

  13. Just received my new SM8 50, & 54 degree wedges love the new look & weight of these clubs
  14. Hi Bob,
For a higher handicapper, 15+, is there going to be any noticeable difference in the SM8 vs the SM7?

Yes, as long as you are properly fit. So many golfers may think fitting is only for tour players. But I have seen so many players with a handicap like yours get fit and benefit, because it improves your game in an area where you may struggle. The SM8 with forward CG also improves consistency, and MOI helps offer some forgiveness too.
  16. Thanks Bob! I carry 4 wedges 48-60, all with "medium" bounce per recommendation from my fitter. At my home course, it can sometimes take a few days for the bunkers to dry out and get "fluffed back up" after a heavy rain. I've been adjusting my swing to the sand conditions and have been doing ok. What is your opinion on having extra wedges with different bounces to match the expected conditions and choosing a wedge loft based on the bounce to aid the swing versus making only swing adjustments?

Mr. Vokey, any plans to release a fully forged wedge in the U.S anytime in the near future?

  19. You know all those "what's in the bag" columns in golf magazines? Would they tell us the wedge grinds and bounces if you asked them to?
  20. Mr. Vokey,
It's time to retire my Special Grind 60 V wedge. Which SM8 wedge matches it's' specifications best?

The wait is over. SM8 is officially available in golf shops!

Talk about a hot start. SM8 has been the worst kept secret with record-setting adoption on the PGA TOUR, European Tour, and Korn Ferry. In its first 12 TOUR events, SM8 has already brought home 7 titles. 48% of the wedges at this week’s Bay Hill Invitational are Vokey Design and last week 57% of wedges in play at the Honda Classic were Vokey, including the winner: Sungjae Im.

So what exactly is this secret sauce that has SM8 making so much noise on tours? For starters, you can find a lot of great SM8 insights on the Vokey website. But what better way to learn about SM8 than asking the man himself?

Please submit your SM8 questions below and we'll have Bob Vokey dive in to answer your questions on Wednesday, March 11th.

SWEEPS: Simply submit your SM8 related question for Bob Vokey by replying to this thread below.
